ABOUT GEORGE TSONGAS

George Tsongas, a poet who for years was a living landmark in San Francisco’s North Beach, died in an acute care hospital in San Leandro on Jan. 15. He was 83 years old and never really recovered from a fall on a North Beach street he suffered last summer. He wrote hundreds of poems – so many that he lost count. His most recent published book, “Wild Broccoli,” was published by the Thin Ice Press in 2008. He wrote several other books, including “The
