George Tsongas, a poet who for years was a living landmark in San Francisco's North Beach, died in an acute care hospital in San Leandro on Jan. 15. He was 83 years old and never really recovered from a fall on a North Beach street he suffered last summer. He wrote hundreds of poems - so many that he lost count. His most recent published book, "Wild Broccoli," was published by the Thin Ice Press in 2008. He wrote several other books, including "The Trieste Chronicles" about the scene at Caffe Trieste in North Beach, which was his headquarters. (Source)
