Jason Shinder was born in Brooklyn. He is the author of three collections of poetry: the posthumously published Stupid Hope (2009), Among Women (2001), and Every Room We Ever Slept In (1993), a New York Public Library Notable Book. Shinder’s honors include a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and the post of poet laureate of Massachusetts. He was the founding director of the YMCA’s National Writer’s Voice and a writing program for the Sundance Institute. After a battle with lymphoma and leukemia, Shinder died in Manhattan at the age of 52. (Source)
